Punjab rural development and panchayats minister Sikander Singh Maluka on Wednesday issued instructions to all authorities concerned to ensure the completion of ongoing rural development projects in time by accelerating the pace of work.

At a meeting here on Wednesday, Maluka said the state had prepared a comprehensive plan to strengthen the rural development department by filling all vacant posts with a view to give a boost to the ongoing projects.

He said staff shortage in the department would be resolved soon. Under this plan, 30 junior engineers (JEs, civil) would be recruited shortly. He said the chief minister had given the nod to the recruitment process and JEs would be recruited through direct recruitment.

The minister also asked the authorities and officers concerned to complete ongoing rural development projects within the stipulated time frame.
