Additional district and sessions judge Shalini S Nagpal on Monday awarded life term to a Muzaffarnagar resident, a member of auto lifters’ gang, for killing his accomplice.
The court also imposed a fine of Rs 41,000 on convict, Roshan, guilty of killing his accomplice Nukul Kumar, 25, while robbing an auto-rickshaw driver.
As per the prosecution, Nukul, who was a member of an auto-rickshaw lifters’ gang, had died after the bullet fired by Roshan to an auto driver accidentally hit him in Sector 31, Chandigarh, on January 9 night.
The victim had succumbed to his bullet injuries at PGIMER after which, police had arrested two of his accomplices, one of them a juvenile. The incident had taken place at 11.30 pm, when three youths, including Nukul, his accomplices Roshan Lal and a minor boy, hired an auto-rickshaw of Vijay Kumar, a Burail resident, to the railway station. After they reached the road near the Food Corporation of India (FCI) building in Sector-31, the juvenile asked the auto-driver to stop the vehicle as he wanted to answer nature’s call.
After that, all three accused had beaten the auto driver and forcibly took him to the rear seat. Accused Roshan Lal had pulled out a country-made pistol and pointed on Vijay’s forehead. However, it missed the victim, after which, he again pointed the pistol on his head. Upon reacting, Vijay Kumar had pushed the pistol and bullet hit Nakul, who was sitting on the driver’s seat.
