After the botched up surgeries during an eye check-up camp in Gurdaspur where a total of 18 persons lost vision, the administration on Monday raided many clinics in SAS Nagar and arrested a person for illegally selling medicines at his clinic in Bakarpur village.
The raid was conducted by the senior medical officer (SMO) Daler Singh and drug inspector Navdeep Kaur and the Sohana police.
According to police, the alleged accused was arrested for failing to produce any of relevant documents regarding his profession.
A case under section 15 (2) of Medical Council of India and section 420 (cheating) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and NDPS act has been registered against Randhir Singh, 27, (accused), a resident Kurada village in SAS Nagar.
The SMO said, "The raid was conducted after police were informed by locals that the accused sells drugs at his clinic illegally."
He added that the alleged accused could not show any relevant document, after which he was arrested by the police.
Ashish Kapoor, superintendent of police (SP), City 1, said, "During the interrogation, the accused revealed that around two year back, he used to work at a medical shop in Zirakpur. After quitting his job a few months ago, he had opened his own clinic here in Bakarpur village." Meanwhile, police also seized around 2,000 drug capsules from his possession.

It has been learnt that police were receiving several complaints regarding the illegal practice by the alleged accused for the past few days, but no action was taken against him. Citing the reason, superintendent of police, City, Ashish Kapoor said they received the information on Monday and took the action.
