The Punjabi film industry seems to announce from rooftops, its resolve to become bigger and better with every film. With movies such as Jatt & Juliet and Carry on Jatta changing the course of the region’s entertainment industry forever, standards have been set high and audiences won’t settle for anything less.
Making claims about creating an impact and taking Punjabi cinema to the next level, are the makers of the Punjabi film, Pinky Moge Wali, which releases on September 28. Playing Pinky, actor Neeru Bajwa hopes this one will be as big as her previous, Jatt & Juliet.
“It’s a complete masala film, which would be something new for the audiences. Instead of being a typical rom-com, it rises above that genre with a blend of good music, action and item numbers.” Did we hear item numbers in a Punjabi film? Neeru smiles and confirms, saying, “Yes, I am guilty. Dancing for an item number was an experience in itself.
Until now, I had been working in films with singers-turned-actors, where the focus is mostly on them. So, I didn’t get the chance to dance. But here, the stage is entirely mine.”
With there being three item numbers bringing ‘sensuality’ in the film, are we going the Bollywood way? Vikram Dhillon, the film’s director, clarifies, “Neeru looks sensual but not vulgar. I am sure no one will be able to point fingers at us for obscenity.”

{{/usCountry}}Vikram also says he has improved the technical aspects of filmmaking with Pinky Moge Wali. “It is like a Bollywood film, even in terms of its action sequences,” adds he. With famous Bollywood singer Mohit Chauhan making his singing debut in Punjabi with the film, Vikram believes it is a sign of growth. “Our music will rock,” he smiles.
However, the only apparent constant in Pinky Moge Wali seems to be Punjabi singer KS Makhan’s acting debut. “Entering the Punjabi cinema at this time, when it is at its peak, is the right thing to do,” he reasons, adding, “Acting wasn’t tough since I have been a stage performer. In the film, I had the chance to improve upon, thanks to many re-takes.”
Meanwhile, Pinky aka Neeru winds up with promises of looking prettier. “You will just fall in love with me in this film, where I play a loud and happy-go-lucky girl. With a different haircut, my looks are also different. The rest, you have to see it to believe it.”
