Mercury falls sharply in Punjab, Haryana

After braving hot weather for past several days, people across Punjab, Haryana and this Union Territory today enjoyed a pleasant day, with the day temperatures recording a sharp fall.

After braving hot weather for past several days, people across Punjab, Haryana and this Union Territory today enjoyed a pleasant day, with the day temperatures recording a sharp fall.

The maximum in Haryana's Hisar, which had registered a high of 48 degrees a couple of weeks earlier, settled at 25.2 C, 17 notches below normal, the Met Office said.

Karnal had a pleasant day at 27.4 C, down by 13 degrees, while the high at Ambala dropped to 29.1 C, eleven degrees below normal.

Cloudy weather and cool breeze brought down the day temperature to 30 C at Chandigarh, down by nine degrees.

In Punjab, the maximum in Ludhiana plummeted to 29.7 C, down by twelve degrees, while that of Amritsar settled at 30 C, eleven notches below normal.

Patiala's maximum settled at 29.7 deg C, ten degrees below normal.

The Met forecast moderate to rather heavy rain or thunder showers at many places in Haryana and at a few places in Punjab.
