An Indian Institute of Management-Rohtak (IIMR) press release quoted Milkha Singh: “It is important for us to support and encourage the girl child. Female athletes of our country have done us proud internationally and many of them are from Haryana. Public perception and attitude about female children must change as women play an important role in creating equitability in society and nation building”.

“I urge all concerned citizens to take part in the mini-marathon being organized by the IIM-Rohtak next month”, he added.

On the concept of the IIM-R’s marathon, an official said: “India’s low rank in terms of the GII (gender inequality index) and a gender ratio of 947 females per 1,000 males speaks volumes about the precarious environment for the women”.
