Mohali admn soft on water wastage; only 24 fined so far

Though SAS Nagar administration has decided to impose ban on washing cars, courtyard and watering lawns during peak hours-6am to 9am- from April 25 to June 30, but till date only 24 violators have been challaned for misusing water in the past 15 days as part of a challaning drive here.

Though SAS Nagar administration has decided to impose ban on washing cars, courtyard and watering lawns during peak hours-6am to 9am- from April 25 to June 30, but till date only 24 violators have been challaned for misusing water in the past 15 days as part of a challaning drive here.

However, the Chandigarh MC that began their drive from April 15 challaned more than 200 violators.
Public health executive engineer Rajinder Kumar said, “We have challaned 24 violators till date. Initially, we issued notices and then we imposed Rs 1,000 fine on them. Water supply to the violators will be discontinued in the third step. Water supply to people who have connected motors directly to lift water will also be stopped as the practice is illegal,” he added.

In order to combat with insufficient supply of water during the summer, the SAS Nagar a d ministration decided to impose ban on free use of water.

Those found violating the nor ms for the first time, will get warning from MC.

In case violation of law for the second time, Rs 1,000 challan will be imposed. Water supply will be disconnected in t he violators’ household in third and final measure.
