Nine die in road mishaps in Kashmir

Nine people, including two tourists, were killed in different road mishaps across the Kashmir valley, police said today.

Nine people, including two tourists, were killed in different road mishaps across the Kashmir valley, police said on Monday.

Four persons were killed, including two tourists from Pune, when a car collided with an oil tanker on the National Highway at Awantipora in south Kashmir.

"Four others as well as drivers of the colliding vehicles were injured. They were shifted to a hospital in Srinagar for treatment," police spokesman said.

Two motorcycles collided at Fore Shore road on Dal lake bank in Srinagar, resulting in the death of Tanveer Ahmad Sheikh(20).

"Three injured persons were shifted to SKIMS hospital, where one of the injured, Mohammad Iqbal Bhat (20), succumbed to injuries," the spokesman said.

Elsewhere, two cars collided at Rayil Gund in north-east district of Ganderbal, killing 55-year-old Niyaz Ahmad Bazaz. A case has been registered in this regard.

"In another accident involving a motorcycle near Hyderbeigh Pattan in north Kashmir, Ishfaq Ahmad Mir (23) was killed on the spot," the spokesman added.
