The recognition period has been enhanced by two years as per the demand made by private schools.

The department has however clarified that the recognition would be withdrawn any time if the private schools were found tampering with the quality standards and violating the norms of the Right to Education Act-2009.

In this regard, DPI (s) Kamlesh Kumar said “The order regarding enhancement of the state recognition has already been approved by the advisor office. From now on, the department will grant the recognition for five years if any school will apply after lapse of their existing recognition.”

This is with reference to those schools in the city who have already possess the mandatory recognition till March, 2015.

Officials stated that seeking recognition from the local authorities was compulsory under the RTE Act-2009 as it ensured quality education and compliance of the academic and operational framework mandated in the act.

She however added that the department must ensure regular compliance of the RTE act in the private schools so that strict action should be taken against schools violating its norms.

Meanwhile, the recommendation of the state advisory council had played a vital role in enhancing the recognition period. In one of the recent meetings, its members had strongly advocated for extension of this period. State Advisory council was recently constituted under the direction of the Punjab and Haryana High Court to ensure the compliance of the RTE Act.
