This test is optional for Class 10 students but as per a survey conducted by the board, over 6 lakh students gave this test in the last three years.

Besides empowering students, the Student’s Global Aptitude Index will aim to make Class 10 students aware of their aptitudes and suitable career choices, which the board states “has become more significant in the Indian context where subject choices of a student are often dictated by parents’ expectations, peer pressure, social prestige and other external factors.”

The Student’s Global Aptitude Index advocates the fact that every individual is unique in terms of aptitude, interest, personality and motivation and therefore, requires a personalised approach.

Local CBSE counsellor Rakesh Sachdeva said the aptitude test should be made an integral part of the school system and students and parents should be sensitised about SGAI in Class 9 itself.

Though there is no late fee for SGAI, schools must register students for the fifth edition of SGAI by October 15.

Officials said the test is expected to be held in November.
