Giving details, police said that security guards of a private security agency at Sector 17 bank square fired the gunshots accidentally.

Though no one was injured in the firing, it was a miraculous escape for people at the bank square.

The incident happened at about 11am when Harjinder Singh and Jaspal Singh, both working as security guards at Prashant Security Agency, reached Punjab National Bank (PNB) in a cash delivery van.

Suddenly, the area was filled with the noise of gunshots. Interestingly, the other guard hid for cover when he heard the gunshots.

Police said gunshots were fired accidentally from the .12 bore gun of Harjinder Singh, who was trying to load it before sitting inside the cash van. Police were immediately called on after the gunshots were heard. Police said the shells were recovered from the spot.

Station house office (SHO), Sector-17 police station, Dilsher Singh, said a case has been registered under section 336 (endangering life or personal safety of others) of the Indian Penal Code(IPC) against Harjinder Singh, who was later bailed out.
