A junior resident doctor at the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh, drowned in a stream near Kullu on Friday.
The doctor was identified as Rupak Dhakal, 28, from the department of internal medicine department, PGIMER, and was a foreign national student from Nepal.
According to the police officials of Kullu, he was on his way to Manali with three other doctors from the PGIMER. They stopped for clicking pictures when he fell in Parvati river near Manikaran and was swept away with the gush of water.
Kullu deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Sanjay Sharma said that the victim fell into the stream while clicking photographs near the Choj bridge at Kasol near Manikaran.
The body of the deceased was handed over to his friends for last rites as per the request of his family members after conducting the post-mortem examination.
The cause of the death was stated as drowning and the police ruled out any foul play in the death of the victim. The police registered a case and investigation was going on.
Following the incident, the PGIMER officials informed his family. Dr Ankush Singla, president of Association of Resident Doctors, said the body reached the institute at around 2am on Saturday.

{{/usCountry}}The PGIMER also organised a condolence meeting for the departed doctor. Later, in a formal ceremony in presence of senior doctors, his body was seen off from the institute.
