PGI professor in race for AAP ticket

Former president of the Post-Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) faculty association Dr Virendra Singh is also in the race for the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) ticket for the Chandigarh Lok Sabha constituency.

Former president of the Post-Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) faculty association Dr Virendra Singh is also in the race for the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) ticket for the Chandigarh Lok Sabha constituency.

Sources in the Chandigarh unit of the AAP confirmed the development that Dr Singh had shown his willingness to contest from the Chandigarh Lok Sabha seat for the upcoming general elections.

When contacted, Dr Singh confirmed the development, saying that he has supported the AAP's crusade against corruption from the very first day. "I have conveyed my decision to the responsible people inside the party, now it is up to them," he added.

Dr Singh, who served on various posts of the faculty association of the PGIMER, is known in the institute as vocal critic of the PGIMER administration and union health ministry.

Dr Singh is a native of Uttar Pradesh and comes from a small land holding peasant family.

From graduation to his super-specialisation in liver diseases he studied at the Institute of Medical Sciences, Banaras Hindu University. He still has 10 years of his career left at the PGIMER. At present, he is a professor in the department of hepatology.
