Sham Lal, executive engineer, Chandigarh MC, confirmed, "Both pipelines have been fixed, but normal supply from both is expected only by Tuesday evening. Though the phase-3 pipeline was repaired on Saturday, we were waiting for the cement base to settle. We will release water from the phase-3 pipeline on Monday morning, which will reach homes by the evening." As for the phase-4 pipeline, which supplies water to SAS Nagar, Lal said water in that would be released on Tuesday.

It was during digging for the wider pipe on August 20 that an earth-moving machine hit the phase-4 pipe, also damaging the adjacent phase-3 pipe. Residents of southern sectors, especially Sectors 18 to 47 in Chandigarh, and particularly those above the ground floor, bore the brunt of low-pressure supply. In SAS Nagar, the situation was worse to being with, but the district administration pressed 100 tankers into service to give some relief.
