Punjab Medical Council (PMC) has sought declaration under oath from all medical colleges and the university in the state that they are imparting medical education as per the “statutory curriculum” in different medical courses.
In a press release, the PMC said they had written to the vice-chancellor of Baba Farid University of Health Sciences, Faridkot, and the principals of Christian Medical College and Hospital, Ludhiana; Dayanand Medical College and Hospital, Ludhiana; Sri Guru Ram Das Institute of Medical Sciences and Research, Amritsar; Gian Sagar Medical College and Hospital, Banur, Patiala; Punjab Institute of Medical Sciences, Jalandhar; and Chintpurni Medical College and Hospital, Pathankot.
President Dr GS Grewal said the medical college is statutorily required to implement the curriculum as notified in the statutory regulations of the university to which the medical college is affiliated and for recognition by the medical council in each medical discipline - MBBS and/or MD and/or MS and/or DM and/or MCh degree imparted in the said medical college.
He said the PMC would undertake surprise inspections. Any violation(s) in statutory regulations compromised the very integrity and basic requirements for maintaining the standard of medical education in Punjab, he added.

{{/usCountry}}The PMC president said if the said body or authorities refused to comply with any such request, the state government, acting upon a report by the council, might remove such university, college or school from the schedule or refuse to include it in the schedule.
