Police launch hunt for POs, bail jumpers

In election season, the Panchkula police have dug up old cases even those belonging to 1960s and 1970s and formed a list to nab proclaimed offenders (POs) and bail jumpers who have eluded them so far.

In election season, the Panchkula police have dug up old cases even those belonging to 1960s and 1970s and formed a list to nab proclaimed offenders (POs) and bail jumpers who have eluded them so far. There are as many as 561 bail jumpers and 119 POs which the police are yet to arrest in Panchkula police district.

The maximum pending list is with sector 5 police station. It is yet to arrest 203 bail jumpers and 28 POs. The next is Chandimandir police station where 103 bail jumpers and 28 POs are yet to be arrested.
In case of bail jumpers, the oldest case reopened is the one registered on March 28, 1964, against Mhender Singh, resident of Yamunanagar, under section 409 ( for criminal breach of trust by a public servant) of the IPC at Pinjore police station as FIR no. 18. He was declared proclaimed offender on October 20, 1979.

Another old case now revived was registered on March 25, 1973, as FIR no. 21 against Kishore, resident of Bihar, under section 457 (for house trespass) and section 380 (for theft in dwelling) of the IPC at Chandimandir police station. Kishore was declared proclaimed offender on April 14, 1976, and since then he is yet to be traced.

The police have formed a special cell to nab these criminals. “In view of elections the police are focusing on bail jumpers and proclaimed offenders. These could people could be used as muscle power during elections. We have launched a special hunt to nab them,” said deputy commissioner of police Ashwin Shenvi.
