'Preeto' loses passport for concealing marriage

The Chandigarh passport office has cancelled the passport of Punjabi film actress and anchor Anshu Sahni, popularly known as Preeto, after her husband Harjinder Singh complained that she had lied in the documents that she was unmarried.

Regional passport officer Rakesh Aggarwal confirmed that the passport was cancelled: "We had received a complaint routed through the Chandigarh police and we confirmed the facts. During investigations it was revealed that when Anshu Sahni had applied for the passport, she was unmarried and later she did not update her marriage status with the office. As per rules we have cancelled her passport and fined her `2m500. She has already applied for the new passport".

Harjinder, resident of Ludhiana, said he was married to Sahni in 2006 and after his marriage he had a dispute with her, for which a case is already on in a court. Harjinder had alleged that she had registered for a passport in 2010 in which she mentioned that she was unmarried and then also visited abroad several times. Harjinder said she had provided wrong information as she wanted to get remarried abroad and settle there.
