The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) on Saturday lashed out at former union minister and Congress legislator from Patiala Prenteet Kaur over the sensational disclosures of her secret accounts in foreign banks and demanded strict action against her and others.
SAD secretary general Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa, senior vice-president Ranjit Singh Brahampura and general secretary Balwinder Singh Bhunderin said in a joint statement issued here: "The cat is now out of the bag. Not only has a former union minister been found lying in full view of the public and international media, but it has also been established that the Congress leaders joined hands with the global financial underworld to siphon the country' precious resources meant for the poor into their shady personal foreign accounts."
The Akali leaders said Preneet Kaur's case was a not a one-off incident and it was "merely the tip of the iceberg".
The SAD also asked the Centre to probe the matter vigorously and expose "the entire unholy nexus of Congress leaders with the international mafia."
They claimed the amount of black money taken out of the country through illegitimate means was large enough to meet India's development expenses for several decades.
