Panjab University has ordered re-examination of papers 1, 2 and 3 of MSc (chemistry) fourth semester as it came to light on Wednesday that SGGS Khalsa College, Mahilpur, in Hoshiarpur district had held these three exams, and not just one, earlier than the rest of the university.

The full scale of the blunder came out only after HT reported that an exam rescheduled for May 22 had been held by the college on the old date, May 21. But not just that, the May 27 exam was held by the college two days in advance (May 25), and the one scheduled for June 4 was conducted a day in advance. In all, 210 students will undergo the three re-examinations now, scheduled for July 2, 5 and 8.

Though the college authorities had said a new datesheet was never sent after they downloaded the original one from the PU website (puchd.ac.in), the PU examination controller had told HT that hard copies had been sent "probably by May 11" after the dates were changed "within hours" owing to clash with some re-appear exam dates.

The PU spokesman informed, "On May 1, initially a datesheet for post-graduate courses was uploaded on the university website. Owing to some clashes of dates, a new datesheet was uploaded and duly declared hours later."
