It was decided at a meeting that the remuneration be increased from `15 to `18 per answer sheet in case of undergraduate courses and for postgraduate courses it has been increased from `18 to ` 22 per answer sheet.

Confirming the development, controller of examinations (COE) Parvinder said: "The decision will be implemented from April 1 onwards". The remuneration was raised last time in 2012. For checking class XII answer sheets, the CBSE pays `20 per answer sheet.

On May 6, nearly 400 staff members of the university had boycotted paper checking work in protest against the non-revision of rates of remuneration. As per university records, 300 teaching and 100 supporting staff have been deputed in Chandigarh for paper marking by the authorities. On an average, 1,200 to 1,500 answer sheets are evaluated by the staff members in a day.

The committee was headed by varsity dean, university instructions. Prof AK Bhandari.
