Dean, student welfare (DSW), AS Ahluwalia confirmed that dates: "Students can now officially start campaigning. But they will have to follow all rules laid down by the Lyngdoh Committee."

According to the rules, parties will have to remove all banners and posters pasted by them across the campuses. Outsiders will also be banned completely, and if an outsider supporter is found campaigning a particular student party, the president of that party will face legal action.

The dates come a day after the UT administration gave the go-ahead to student elections at the college level. There was a protest from college managements, saying that such elections generally lead to violence. However, the administration has decided to allow elections in colleges.

Meanwhile, parties are already busy distributing freebies and putting up shows of strength, even though the names of candidates have not been announced.
