PU to hold workshop for women scientists

Panjab University (PU) will host a workshop on Wednesday to create awareness about department of science and technology (DST), Government of India’s (GOI) societal research fellowship scheme, which operates under their programme KIRAN - Knowledge Involvement Research Advancement Nurturing.

Panjab University (PU) will host a workshop on Wednesday to create awareness about department of science and technology (DST), Government of India’s (GOI) societal research fellowship scheme, which operates under their programme KIRAN - Knowledge Involvement Research Advancement Nurturing.

The workshop is being organised by Punjab State Council for Science and Technology in collaboration with PU’s research promotion cell and National Academy of Sciences, India (NASI).

Aiming to address women scientists and technologists who wish to contribute to nation building, the workshop would include technical sessions in which experts from diverse domains such as life science, medical and engineering, would deliver talks.

About 150 women scientists, technologists, engineers, medical professionals from Punjab and Chandigarh are expected to participate in the event. The registration is being done on first-come-first-get basis.

Under the societal research fellowship scheme, DST-GOI provides research grants to female researchers especially those who have had a break in their careers and wish to return to main stream research.

Jyoti Sharma, principal scientific officer, department of science and technology, GOI, will provide overview of the funding opportunities available under KIRAN and other programmes.
