The announcement came after varsity's new Chief Security Officer Jatinder Grover and dean, student welfare Navdeep Goyal met security personnel to review PU's security arrangements.
Varsity sources said that while PU has already conducted physical tests, the process could not be completed due to the ongoing Lok Sabha elections.
Sources said that security personnel complained about shortage of security guards at PU. The varsity currently has 300 security guards. After the meeting, Grover said that he would soon come up with a comprehensive plan to rising curb violence on the campus.
“Our emphasis would be on securing the gates so unwanted outsiders don't enter the campus. I have discussed the problems with security personnel and we would soon take measures to curb the violence,” Grover said.
On Friday afternoon, a group of youngsters beat up a student near PU's gate no 1 and even fired shots in the air, before escaping.
The incident was the fourth incident of violence that the varsity has seen over the last two weeks. The increasing violence at the varsity has raised questions over the varsity's security.
PU gets new Chief Security officer.
Jatinder Grover, an assistant professor at the University School of Open Learning, was given the additional charge of the varsity's security on Saturday. He replaced Anil Monga, a senator, who was recently appointed dean, alumni relations.
Well-placed sources at PU said that while Grover's name was cleared for the post ten days ago, it was not announced due to the elections.
Monga was relieved due to his recent appointment, said sources.
