However, the house opposed the same on the ground that this May, Verma will turn 65, which is the retirement age.

After much discussion, the House resolved that Verma be allowed to continue till May 31. The members felt that the item should have been brought as an agenda item and not as part of the V-C's statement.

The issue of admission of 10 ineligible students by Guru Nanak Girls College, Ludhiana, also rocked the House. It decided that the admission of all candidates be cancelled and they may be refunded fee. It also resolved that strict warning be given to college principal Charanjeet Chahal and as a penalty the college be made to pay fine equivalent to the fee of all 10 students. The House observed that action should be taken against other erring colleges as well.

Raising the issue, Dr RPS Josh said no posts have been filled in colleges in Punjab for almost two decades now, due to which colleges were suffering on the academic front. The V-C said he will arrange such a meeting.
