Punjab cop likely to be NSG chief

The Punjab government has forwarded the name of present state DGP NPS Aulakh to the Centre after Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal on Monday cleared his file for central deputation, reports Manish Tiwari.

The Punjab government has forwarded the name of present state DGP N.P.S. Aulakh to the Centre after Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal on Monday cleared his file for central deputation. A decision to this effect was taken by the CM on a request made by the DGP.

DGP Aulakh, a 1972-batch IPS officer, is likely to be posted as Director General National Security Guard (NSG), which is falling vacant after the retirement of present incumbent J.K. Dutt on February 28, sources said. With the government finally agreeing to Aulakh’s request, the focus is now on picking his successor before the Lok Sabha polls are announced.

But in case, his posting as DG NSG gets delayed, Aulakh will have to wait till July when the post of DG, Border Security Force, fell vacant, they added. Aulakh is due for retirement in August 2010.

While Punjab’s ADGP (Security) Anil Kaushik and ADGP (Law and Order) Shashi Kant are expected to be promoted in the rank of DGP by the state government on February 12, there are four DG rank officers —K.K. Attri, R.S. Gill, Mohammed Izhar Alam and A.P. Pandey — whose candidature would also be considered for the top post.
