Punjab declares holiday in shops, factories today

The Punjab government has declared Wednesday (July 3) as a paid holiday in all shops and other commercial establishments of the state under the Punjab Shops and Commercial Establishments Act, 1958, so as to enable employees working in shops and commercial establishments to exercise their franchise in the panchayat elections.

The Punjab government has declared Wednesday (July 3) as a paid holiday in all shops and other commercial establishments of the state under the Punjab Shops and Commercial Establishments Act, 1958, so as to enable employees working in shops and commercial establishments to exercise their franchise in the panchayat elections.

Stating this here, an official spokesman said the government, on the same grounds, had also declared July 3 as a paid holiday in all factories where Wednesday is not a closed day in lieu of the normal weekly off.
