Haryana and Punjab governments have mulled the planned development of Chandigarh, Mohali and Panchkula in a high-level meeting held at Punjab Raj Bhawan here.
The issue of excise duty on liquor transport system and Metro rail also came up for discussion on Thursday in a meeting between Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal and his Haryana counterpart Bhupinder Singh Hooda, an official release said here.
The meeting was chaired by Governor of Punjab and Administrator UT Chandigarh, Shivraj Patil.
For the planned development of Chandigarh, Mohali
and Panchkula, it was suggested that the plans of these cities should be considered at the level of the chief secretaries of the two states and the adviser of Union Territory.
Moreover, the policies made in this respect could also be discussed with the chief ministers of both the states and the Administrator of Union Territory, the release said.
On the different rates levied on liquor in three cities, it was also proposed that the difference of duties on liquor in Chandigarh, Mohali and Panchkula should be narrowed down.
A detailed presentation on the proposed plan on Metro rail was given and Badal agreed to the proposal in principle while Hooda agreed to examine the proposal in detail, the release said.
It was also suggested that the Punjab and Haryana should ply their own buses on long routes outside Chandigarh city.

UT Chandigarh had agreed to give land for building more houses to accommodate legislatures, the executive bodies of Punjab and Haryana and the high court of Punjab and Haryana.
