Punjab orders speeding up of departmental probes

The Punjab government has issued strict orders to all departments to complete inquiries to prevent unnecessary delays in the progress of retirement benefits, and promotions of employees and officers facing the inquiry.

The Punjab government has issued strict orders to all departments to complete inquiries to prevent unnecessary delays in the progress of retirement benefits, and promotions of employees and officers facing the inquiry.

Announcing this here on Monday, a spokesperson of the personnel department said the orders had been issued to all departments under the Punjab Civil Services (Punishment and Appeal) Rules, 1970, to immediately settle all departmental inquiries.

He said if a chargesheet is issued against an employee or officer, he must respond to it within 15 days. If he delays the submission of response, a warning letter would be issued, after which if the response is not received within 21 days, an additional 10 days would be given to formulate a suitable reply.

He said if the appropriate reply was not given even then, the government would initiate unilateral action against the employee or the officer after appointment of an investigating officer and hearing officers.

The spokesperson said that according to official guidelines, the investigation of the employee or officer concerned must be completed within six months.

The spokesperson said the government has ordered the departments to ensure that in the above mentioned case, strict action must be taken soon and in a time-bound manner.
