Punjab: Rs 21 lakh for education of disabled

The Punjab government has earmarked Rs 21 lakh to provide higher secondary education to 7,016 disabled students in the state during the current financial year.

The Punjab government has earmarked Rs 21 lakh to provide higher secondary education to 7,016 disabled students in the state during the current financial year.

Stating this here, education minister Sikander Singh Maluka said the government would provide education to the disabled at the secondary level and also aim at providing all students with disabilities completing eight years of elementary schooling an opportunity to complete four years of secondary schooling in an inclusive and enabling environment.

The minister said Rs 3,000 per disabled student would be provided for facilities such as free books, uniform, scholarship, transport allowance and appliances.
