Rain water reportedly entered many houses and shops in Preet Nagar, Shanti Nagar, Kalyan Nagar, Kirti Nagar, Guru Nanak Nagar, Rania Gate and Hisariya Bazaar, while Begu Road and Gol Diggi area virtually turned into ponds. Parshuram Chowk, Shah Satnam Ji Chowk, Ambedkar Chowk and Bhagat Singh Chowk were also waterlogged and foul smell started emanating from the overflowing drains.
Town residents complain that the civic body staff seldom bothers to clean the drains.

Sandeep Arora, a resident of Preet Nagar, said, “It’s not less than hell. If you look at Begu Road it seems like a river. The potholes make us cry. For the past five years, Begu Road is waiting for its repair.

“Local MLA Gopal Kanda has done nothing for the district. When Ashok Tanwar was MP he also did not care about the area. Sitting MP Charanjeet Singh has never been seen in the area after he won the election. Now, they are approaching us again for votes ahead of the assembly polls. But people are fed up with these politicians. They will take strict action on their own now,” he added.
