L&T executive vice-president SN Roy, who called on the chief minister on Tuesday, later announced this deadline. The company has asked for the CM's help in acquiring about 25 acres for laying a road from national highway-1 to the site via Sarai Banjara, Chandumajra, Chak Kalan, Chak Khurd, and Sural Kalan villages.

The existing approach road from highway-64 is too weak to carry the massive traffic of trucks carrying fly ash from the plant. The CM told the company to acquire the land on its own and thereafter get all logistic support and cooperation for the building of road.

Badal agreed to exempt the project from observing industrial power supply weekly day off and peak-load restrictions. He gave L&T the offer to build three jails for Rs 450 crore, execute sewerage projects worth Rs 200 crore, brick-line the Sirhind canal for Rs 1,452 crore, and four-lane the Zirakpur-Bathinda road for Rs 2,100 crore.

He also offered the company the task to build Rs 250-crore Jang-e-Azadi Memorial at Kartarpur near Jalandhar to showcase the contribution of Punjabis to the national freedom struggle. Badal told his staff to fix Roy's meeting with the principal secretaries for irrigation and cultural affairs and the secretary for local government.

Roy agreed to go there with his best engineers and architects.
