The arrests came three days after the crime branch of Delhi police cracked the case and arrested five robbers with some items of the loot.

The alleged BTF member Avtar Singh alias Bittoo is the elder brother of Paramjeet alias Pamma who was arrested in 1997 for the assassination of then Punjab chief minister Beant Singh along with Babbar Khalsa member Jagtar Singh Hawara.

Bittoo is an accused in several TADA cases in Punjab and Delhi and is also an alleged member of the All India Sikh Student Federation. He was arrested with his aides Gurjeet Singh, Anil Luthra and Amit Kapoor by central Delhi police.

“He was the mastermind of the Rs 2 crore robbery on May 14. We have recovered jewellery worth around Rs 35 lakh from the three,” said additional CP (central) Alok Kumar.

One of them broke the rear window glass of the taxi while others overpowered them at gunpoint.

They then made away with two bags containing gold and diamond jewellery. Kumar said, it was learnt that nine people were involved in the heist.
