Rs 5 lakh in fake currency recovered from Samjhauta Express that arrived from Pakistan

The customs department on Monday recovered fake currency worth `5 lakh from a compartment of the Lahore-Delhi Samjhauta Express.

The customs department on Monday recovered fake currency worth `5 lakh from a compartment of the Lahore-Delhi Samjhauta Express.

The fake notes were found hidden in the ceiling of a bathroom of bogey number 08401, said officials. The special check was conducted at the Attari railway station after a tip-off.

All recovered notes are in the denomination of `500, said senior officials of the customs department. "We had received information that fake currency was being smuggled through the Samjhauta Express. So, we conducted a search of the train when it arrived at the Attari station,' said an official.
