A delegation from the Delhi unit of Shiromani Akali Dal-Badal on Monday met the capital's lieutenant governor, Tejinder Khanna, to demand the arrest of Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) president Paramjit Singh Sarna for his alleged role in Thursday's violence at central Delhi's Gurdwara Rakabganj.
At least 11 people, including SAD-Badal's Delhi chief Manjit Singh GK, were injured in what is being termed as an attack carried out by the DSGMC security taskforce at the behest of Sarna.
Manjit Singh GK led the delegation that also asked Khanna to tell chief minister Sheila Dikshit to "stop interfering in the religious affairs of the Sikhs" and ensure that the DSGMC polls are held by December 31, the deadline fixed by the Supreme Court.
Manjit was accompanied by SAD-Badal's Delhi unit vice-president Onkar Singh Thapar, secretary general Kuldip Singh Bhogal, youth wing secretary general Harmit Singh Kalka and general secretary Chaman Singh, who sought withdrawal of cases registered against the party leaders following the gurdwara violence. They also asked for sacking of the DSGMC security taskforce.
"Appoint a committee of all the former presidents of the DSGMC to look into the violence," the leaders told Khanna, who assured them of necessary action and reportedly told the police commissioner, Neeraj Kumar, to follow up.
