SAD-BJP alliance will snap after Delhi polls: Bajwa

Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) president Partap Singh Bajwa has slammed the BJP’s anti-drug campaign, to be launched by party chief Amit Shah, from Amritsar on January 22 as a politically-motivated move to pave way for snapping ties with the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), immediately after the Delhi assembly elections likely in February.

“The timing of the campaign has been strategically chosen to coincide with the Delhi elections, likely to be held in February. The party has been part and parcel of the Parkash Singh Badal government in Punjab all these years and during times when the drug menace had reached alarming proportions. The BJP never raised its voice then.”

Bajwa said it was only now when the enforcement directorate had started investigations against renevue minister Majithia that the BJP demanded the latter’s resignation.

“It is a strange alliance as the BJP continues to attack the Akali Dal with leaders issuing statements every day demanding Majithia’s resignation. However, the party did not support the no-confidence motion moved by the Congress in the Punjab assembly,” he added, claiming that the Congress was the first to launch an anti-drug campaign in the state.
