Even after nine days of the case having been registered against Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Gautam Cheema and Ajay Chaudhary, suspended chief executive officer (CEO) of the Ambala Cantonment Board, the SAS Nagar police are still clueless about their whereabouts. Cheema, an inspector general of police, and Chaudhary are in the dock for the alleged abduction of a proclaimed offender from a police station. The PO was later arrested and remains in police custody.
Cheema and Chaudhary were last located at Lucknow in Uttar Pradesh “a few days ago”, said senior superintendent of police (SSP) Inder Mohan Singh. He added that two teams have been dispatched to Delhi and Ambala to nab them.

The location remains a mystery to the police even though they have been receiving messages through email from Chaudhary. Sources said Chaudhary has sent clarifications through email to the police. Confirming this, the SSP said, “We have received emails from Ajay Chaudhary in which he has stated that he was not involved in the abduction. From different email addresses he has been sending his version on the FIR registered against him.”

On Cheema, the SSP simply said they had informed to headquarters about the case and the status would be available with the Punjab Police HQ. However, the IGP posted at the HQ, Arpit Shukla, said, “We don’t have any information about Cheema.”

Additional director general of police (ADGP), administration, MK Tewari said “According to me, Cheema applied for leave that was not granted.”
