The district has the least number of students, who cleared the exam as compared to other districts. Even neighbouring Rupnagar has a pass percentage of 68.25%.

Out of total 11,260 students, who appeared in the Class-10, 6,865 were declared pass in the district. Seven students could make it to the merit list comprising 398 students from all over Punjab. Four of them are from Banur, one each from Dera Bassi, SAS Nagar and Kharar.

In Class-12 results, which were declared recently, 62.13% students from the district were declared pass.

"The consistent poor results from SAS Nagar schools are a reason to worry. The district does not have a shortage of teachers, as this is the most sought after district by teachers for posting. We seriously need to look into the reasons that have led to the poor performance," said Punjab School Education Board chairman SS Channy.

"We aim to attain better results next year and for this I had held a meeting with heads of different schools to draw a plan to improve the results. The teachers have been asked to identify students, who are weak in studies as well as the best performers. As per the proposal, teachers would be working separately on students, who need attention. Teachers and principals have been asked to draw up a roadmap to improve the results," said Dr Vinod Kumar, DEO, secondary, SAS Nagar.
