Bickering in the party has finally compelled the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) high command to appoint a new state president in Himachal Pradesh where assembly polls are due this year. Chief parliamentary secretary Satpal Singh ‘Satti’, a legislator from Una, would replace Khimi Ram.

Satti’s appointment is being seen as the first step to rejuvenate the party plagued with factionalism. Two-time legislator, Satpal Singh Satti was first elected to the state assembly in 2003, and won in 2007 with a margin of over 12,000 votes. Satti (48) was active in the party’s student wing and the youth wing. HTC
