SGPC chief's son cremated

SGPC chief Avtar Singh Makkar's younger son Tejinder Pal Singh, who died at the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh, after a prolonged illness on Monday, was cremated here on Tuesday.

SGPC chief Avtar Singh Makkar's younger son Tejinder Pal Singh, who died at the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh, after a prolonged illness on Monday, was cremated here on Tuesday.

Hundreds of people, including family, friends and political personalities, attended the last rites. Chief minister Parkash Singh Badal was also present on the occasion. Condoling the untimely death, the chief minister said the Sikh community and Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) would pray for the family.

He also placed a wreath and a shawl on the body. Senior SAD leader Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa, revenue and information minister Bikram Singh Majithia and

PWD minister Sharanjit Singh Dhillon also condoled the death. Kulwinder Singh from the Golden Temple performed the antim ardaas on the occasion.

The pyre was lit by Bikramjit Singh and Navjot Singh, the deceased's nephews. Vidhan Sabha speaker Charanjit Singh Atwal, political adviser to CM Mahesh Inder Singh Grewal and other senior leaders, including Bibi Jagir Kaur, Kirpal Singh Badungar and Akal Takht jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh, were also present on the occasion.
