Uncertainty looms over the self-proclaimed Sikh museum on the Balongi road as the Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA) on Friday served a demolition notice to the owner and has given him three days to vacate the place.
The museum is spread over an area of 2 kanals and has been propagating the Sikh history through sculptures for the past 12 years. However, the land has been illegally occupied by the owner, who though claims that the land was allotted to him.
GMADA officials say the land is for a graveyard and has been illegally occupied. Now, a final three-day notice has been served to the occupant to vacate the land. The structure will be demolished on Monday if the owner fails to vacate the land and the owner will be made to pay the cost.
GMADA estate officer Rajdeep Kaur said: “We have got eviction orders from the Punjab and Haryana high court. We tried to help the owner vacate the land, but he wants another piece of land in exchange, which is not possible. He will have to vacate the land till Monday.”
GMADA officials say the museum owner, Parwinder Singh, also has a factory in Ramdarbar and he can easily shift these sculptures there till the time he finds an alternative place to exhibit them. Parwinder, who hails from Buterla village in Sector 41, Chandigarh, had been designing sculptures of Sikh martyrs made of fibreglass. He also founded the Sikh Heritage and Cultural Society in 2003.
