Despite intense cold conditions, Sikh devotees reached the Gurudwaras early morning and took a dip in the sarovars (water tanks) attached to the historic shrines at a number of places, including Amritsar, Muktsar, Faridkot, Takhtpura and Nanaksar (Moga) and offered prayers.
People also listened to the Kirtan and attended 'Akhand Path' ceremonies in various towns in the two states as well as the union territory of Chandigarh. Free community kitchens (Langars) were also organised on this occasion in Gurudwaras.
