Gippy Grewal is now looking for an image change. After achieving fame and recognition for his comedy roles in Punjabi films, singer-turned-actor Gippy is looking forward to doing serious roles in his upcoming ventures.

“I am looking for a strong role in a film highlighting a social issue. Though I have tried my hand in commercial cinema but the time has come to focus on serious roles in well-scripted movies,” he says. He shared this dream on his visit to Bathinda to promote his upcoming action-thriller ‘Faraar’, which releases on August 28. Gippy feels that Punjabi cinema needs to focus more on social issues.

Perhaps this change of heart comes from the flop of his debut Hindi film, ‘Second Hand Husband’.

Speaking about the poor response to the film, Gippy says: “The effort of filmmakers is to make good films but the audience is the final judge and the film is rated accordingly.” In all fairness even though the film flopped, Gippy earned positive mention for his role.

He opines that even Punjabi audience opts to watch movies on pirated CDs instead of visiting cinemas like people usually do in the South. “Piracy is the bane of Punjabi cinema and singing industry. Even the government has failed to check piracy in the state,” he adds.
