Police on Wednesday said they solved the murder case of Babu Ram, a Sohana resident, by arresting two people including his brother.

They said Gurmeet Singh, 26, confessed that he killed his 37-year-old brother as his being a bachelor was preventing him from getting married as well.

Gurmeet's friend, Mandeep Singh, who helped in the murder, was also arrested.

Senior superintendent police (SSP) Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said on the night on August 10, the two hatched a conspiracy and gave sedatives to Ram's mother to put her to sleep. He said the two then entered Ram's bedroom and killed him with a sharp-edged weapon.

The SSP said Gurmeet and his friend then washed the room, filled the blood in a bucket, and poured it down a drain outside the house. The two accused then wrapped Ram's body in a plastic bag and carried it on a bike to throw it under a bridge, the SSP said, adding that they later withdrew `10,000 from the ATM card of the deceased at Sector 78, SAS Nagar.

Ram, a driver with Fortis Hospital, was found dead on August 11. His body was found in a rivulet at Mauli Baidwan village in SAS Nagar.
