While addressing the rally, leaders of the union and various other organisations criticised the government for not accepting their demands, which include regularisation of their services in the education department; increasing maternity leave from three months to six months and withdrawal of police cases against the SSA and RMSA teachers.

They demanded the immediate release of the teachers who were arrested by the police during their protest in Rupnagar on February 1 and the withdrawal of their suspension orders.

The Rupnagar administration assured to arrange the meeting of SSA, RMSA union leaders with education minister Daljit Singh Cheema. The union leaders warned that if the issue of release of arrested teachers was not resolved in the meeting, the union would intensify the agitation and district level protests would be organised across the state.
