Schools students are happy over Chandigarh administration's decision to deploy more number of buses to help them commute to and fro from the school.

Waking up to the problems faced by the school students in commuting, the UT administration decided to start 40 new Chandigarh Transport Undertaking (CTU) buses exclusively for students on different routes at Rs 60 per month.

The buses will be catering to the working community apart from students, but the students will be given seats because of their heavy school bags.Each bus would have a display board indicating its entire route and stoppage's, said the CTU authorities.

“These buses will start for students from various stoppages but they can include normal commuters too, who are early office goers. But, the ticket rates for them will be different. The students will be issued passes. The routes have been increased owing to the fact that students from various parts of the city study at various schools,” said CTU general manager SP Parmar.

Students who use public transport to commute to their schools were happy with the announcement. Rashmi, a student of Government Model Senior Secondary School (GMSSS), Sector 16, said, “During morning hours, there are office-goers who occupy most seats while we have travel standing in the aisle carrying heavy schoolbags. But with this decision, I think it will be very comfortable for us to travel.”

The CTU general manager has asked the school authorities to write to them, in case of any problem with the bus timings.

“Schools should write to us in case students face any inconvenience regarding the timings of the buses or any other problem that they face related to the buses,” Parmar said.
