Families of three Class-12 students of Government Model Senior Secondary School (GMSSS), Sector 40, who were injured in a brawl outside the school last month, have accused the education department and the police of inaction against the accused students.
Pawan Kumar, a Class-12 student of GMSSS-40, was seriously injured while two of his classmates - Deepak and Narinder Negi - sustained minor injuries after they were attacked by some outsiders on
August 12. The attack took place at around 2:30 pm outside the school.
The students were attacked by a 10-12 youngsters, allegedly at the behest of two Class-11 students, with whom the former had an argument during school hours. Rajinder Singh, Pawan’s elder brother, said despite the fact that two students were identified who were behind the attack on his brother and his classmates, the police did not take any action.
Moreover, the school authorities are also pressuring them to withdraw the complaint saying the career of the students allegedly involved will be ruined, he claimed.
“We don’t want to ruin anybody’s career but action against those involved in the brawl would ensure safety of my brother and his classmates and such incident does not happen again,” he said. Sources said one of the accused students had not attended the school since the incident. No disciplinary action has been taken against the students either. Jasbir Kaur, principal of GMSSS-40, said their inquiry was still pending in the case. While the statements of students’ parents were recorded, the accused students’ statement was not recorded as they did not attend the school since. “We will take stock of the situation soon and take appropriate action,” she said. Inspector Gurmukh Singh, SHO Sector-39 police station, investigating officer the case, could not be reached for comment.
