The sub-regional plan is being prepared for the towns falling in the periphery of Haryana (Panchkula) and Punjab (SAS Nagar), so that the development works could be carried out in these areas of the periphery of Chandigarh in a planned manner.

The high court, while fixing the next date of hearing for May 19, asked the three parties to hold a meeting to finalise the sub-regional plan.

During the hearing, the HC was also informed by the Central government that the Master Plan 2031 of Chandigarh had been approved and sent back to the UT administration for notification. The court directed the administration to notify the same. The court was hearing a public interest litigation (PIL) seeking early finalisation of the master plan of the city filed by Gurbax Singh Shergill, a city resident.
