Haryana parliamentary affairs minister Randeep Singh Surjewala on Monday condemned the action of nearly 150 activists of the India Against Corruption (IAC) for trying to force their way into the residence of Rohtak MP Deepender Hooda in New Delhi on Sunday.
He said most of the protesters were workers dismissed by Maruti Udyog Limited for going on a rampage following the 'anti-labour policies' of government.
In a statement, Surjewala said, "Arvind Kejriwal and fellow workers must know that house number 9, Pandit Pant Marg, New Delhi, is not the official residence of Haryana chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, but of his son, Deepender." He said the chief minister was not even present in New Delhi at the time of protest "The chief minister's family was in Chandigarh to attend a programme.
"By indulging in violence and obstructing traffic, protesters set a new low in the discourse of democratic process. The government recognises that everyone in a democratic set-up has a right to question, but no one has a right to indulge in hooliganism or forcibly enter the residence of any individual," the minister said.
He said the government had replied to the allegations levelled by Kejriwal, adding that the IAC activist should not forget that a few questions were asked of him as well, to which he was to yet to reply. "Should the fabric of democracy be taken to mean that in the absence of Kejriwal or the IAC refusing to answer the questions, a few thousand workers should storm the residences of Kejriwal or his family?" Surjewala added.
