Taxi driver gets life term for murder

The court of additional district and sessions judge VP Sirohi on Monday sentenced Parminder Singh to life imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 15,000 for kidnapping and murdering a Class-9 student in 2011.

The court of additional district and sessions judge VP Sirohi on Monday sentenced Parminder Singh to life imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 15,000 for kidnapping and murdering a Class-9 student in 2011.

The police had registered a case under Sections 302 and 366 of the IPC against Singh.

Mandeep Kaur, 17, a student of Government Model High School in Sector 41, had gone missing on August 9, 2011, following which the Chandigarh police had arrested Parminder Singh, who was working as a taxi driver.

Singh was arrested on August 11, 2011. During the investigation, Parminder confessed that he had developed a relationship with Mandeep on the pretext of marriage. On August 9, 2011, he had taken the girl to the Khanpur park near Kharar. Mandeep wanted to marry him, but he did not. Therefore, he took her to the Ropar canal at night and pushed her in the canal with the intention of killing her.
