Mumbai based Dr Muffazal Lakdawala, an obesity surgeon, laparoscopic expert and founder of Center for Obesity and Diabetes surgery (CODS) — a weight loss and weight management centre located in Mumbai — was at a SAS Nagar hospital on Friday.

Blaming present-day lifestyle for the mounting cases of obesity, Dr Lakdawala says, “Lifestyle is 110% to be blamed for obesity; junk food culture and lack of physical activities leads to obesity, even at a young age.”

Talking about bariatric surgery, Dr Lakdawala says, “We suggest bariatric surgery for morbidly obese people, because the surgery helps knock off 70 kg to 80 kg of weight at once. The surgery takes around an hour and the patient is allowed to go home the next day. He/she can even return to work within four days. These days, the surgery is done with a single incision and is scar less, since it’s done through the navel.”

A renowned doctor in the glamour world, Muffi — as Dr Lakdawala is popularly known — usually conducts about 45 surgeries a month in Mumbai. His first wife, model-turned-actor Aditi Govitrikar, won was Mrs World 2001.
